Paramount Facing Lawsuit over Godfather Video Games
Paramount Pictures is facing a lawsuit from the estate of Mario Puzo over money owed from The Godfather video games.
It is claimed that the studio owes it at least $1 million in revenue from a breach of contract signed between the author and Paramount.
The Hollywood Reporter says that in 1992 the contract gave Paramount licensing rights for anything that embodied the Godfather saga. Anthony Puzo, the author's son and representative of the estate, claims that the video game is covered in the agreement.
According to the Reporter, the lawsuit says that Paramount has "failed or refused to pay."
"Despite the vast wealth Puzo created for Paramount, it has refused to pay his children their agreed share of the revenue from that audio-visual product," it continues.
News of the law suit follows revelations that video games producer Electronic Arts is working on a sequel to The Godfather game.
John Riccitiello, boss of EA, told investors that "it is a game that I think we'll be talking a lot about this fall".
