Dell Laptops to Use Seagate's 7,200 rpm Hard Drive
Submitted by Computers on Wed, 05/21/2008 - 06:23Dell has announced it will be using Seagate's Momentus 7,200 rpm hard drive in its new laptops.
The computer manufacturer will be the first to utilize the systems which can provide up to 320GB of storage capacity.
Seagate claims its Momentus hard drives are perfect for high-performance laptops and combine the industry's lowest power consumption with leading performance.
Michael Wingert, vice president of Seagate, said that laptop users now want the same capacity, performance and durability that have normally only been available for desktop PCs.
He said: "The new Momentus 7200.3 hard drive exemplifies Seagate's focus on delivering leading storage technologies that make it easier to move, use and protect digital information in the home, in the office and on-the-go."
The hard drive features G-Force Protection, which is a free-fall sensor technology, helping to prevent drive damage and data loss if the laptop is dropped.
Seagate's Momentus FDE.2 hard drive has recently been approved by the National Security Agency for use in laptops and other computers used by US government agencies.
