Amazon Announces Kindle Textbook Rental

Students Rejoice! Kindle Textbook Rental can save students up to 80% off textbook list prices. Amazon announced the launch of a new program where students can rent textbooks through the Kindle Store and you don’t need a Kindle to access the rental textbooks. Students can rent textbooks to read on PC, Mac or mobile devices by downloading the Kindle reading app.  Kindle Textbook Rental offers flexibility so students can rent textbooks between 30 and 360 days and pay only for the specific amount of time the students need the book. Rental periods can be extended if needed and there is an option to purchase the books the students are renting too. Students will have access to tens of thousands of textbooks from top textbook publishers like John Wiley & Sons, Elsevier and Taylor & Francis.

Students can make notes and highlights in the textbook as it is read. The annotations will still be available even after the rental expiration.

I remember being in sticker shock the first time I had to purchase my textbooks for college and although it has been many years, I still haven’t recovered! This technology means no more trekking with heavy books to the library while it helps keep some money in your pocket. No more waiting in lines to buy textbooks or try to sell them back at the end of a semester, or year, at a fraction of the cost.  Enjoy the ease of reading  and annotating your textbooks no matter where you are on campus.  Almost makes me want to be a student again.
